Goals

Goals & Self - Assessment

Winter 2019/2020

So, the final, third year is here... Has my English improved at all during my studies? Am I going to pass the final exams? Am I going to pass the entrance exams? Will my bachelor thesis be good enough? These questions are now the biggest ones in my head. Sometimes, I even dream about them in my sleep. It is obvious, that those are my biggest goals right now.

As for my other English aims, I would mainly want to improve my accent as well as my speaking ability in general. I feel so nervous every time I have to speak in front of people. For example, presentations are like a real horror for me.

Then there is vocabulary. I still, even after three university years, feel, that I must work on it and improve it. I just wish there was more time for reading books because this is the best way how to improve one's vocabulary according to me.

Smart Goals from previous semesters

Summer 2018/2019

As I am now a second-year student, my goals have changed a lot since my first semester.

I have realised how bad my English actually was and how important pronunciation is. During my studies at grammar school, I considered it as something minor, subordinate. Thanks to Mrs

Hůlková I started improving it and I finally began to sound a bit better and more "English". But I know that it would be a long and hard way to achieve the perfect british accent and I am working on it as hard as possible.

Secondly, I dare to say that I have learnt a lot in Grammar and Syntax courses and what's more, I enjoyed every lesson because I like to learn all those grammar particularities and rules. I like to see how wonderfully the language works.

As I am quite shy I would like to improve my speaking abilieties but it is a long way to go I guess. On the other hand, what was definitely helpful in this type of skill was my stay in a guesthouse in Bangkok as I had to deal with customers from all over the world with just a little knowledge of English or with different accents. Paradoxically one of the best "English speakers" were from Japan and one of the worst from Russia and Great Britain - we had one Scottish guest and he was swallowing every second letter in every word, it was absolutely horrible till I got used to it.

So there are tons of things which need improving and I am still working on it.
