Speaking

Winter 2019

Traveling

As I already mentioned in the Introduction part, I, along with my boyfriend, visited Bangkok and Vietnam. We spent there about two months and we were working during this time. Both those trips were an invaluable experience for me. It was the first chance to really speak with so many different nationalities in English. I also met so many wonderful people from, literally, all continents in the world.

In Bangkok, we were working in a small guesthouse right in the city centre. We had to deal with customers from all over the world with just a little knowledge of English or with different accents. Paradoxically one of the best "English speakers" were from Japan and one of the worst from Russia and Great Britain - we had one Scottish guest and he was swallowing every second letter in every word, it was absolutely horrible till I got used to it.

In Vietnam, we taught English in an English Centre in the third biggest city of Hai Phong. We worked with all age groups, from nursery kids to adults. I cannot even express how beneficial this experience was for me.

Presentations

Here are some of my presentations I have made during the first, second and third year of study.

Summer 2018

HISTORICAL WORDS WE SHOULD BRING BACK

This is a presentation from my second semestr (Practical Language course).

It is about interesting historical words which were used in English and now are forgotten which is a shame because they are perfectly concis.

In every slide I firstly showed the old word an then old painting which was somehow connected to the meaning of the word and I let my classmates guess what the term could mean. I think it was quite interesting for them.

Summer 2018

COMPARISON OF EASTERN AND WESTERN PROPAGANDA

I made this presentation in the Cold War course. It was taught in English and I had some difficulties understanding all the "technical" vocabulary. On the other hand, I experienced learning History from a different point of view in English and what is more, both my subjects connected in one.

Winter 2017

IMPRESSIONISM

This presentation is from the first semester (Practical Language course)

I have chosen Impressionism because I have a great passion for art and this is my favourite art movement.

I am especially proud of this presentation because I think that it it really well made and I spent a lot of time creating it.

Winter 2018

COMPARISON OF THAILAND AND GERMANY

I made this presentation with Hana Bartlová in Practical Language course. We have chosen this topic because Hana studies Germany and has a great passion for it and I love Asian culture and I have spent almost two months working in Bangkok.

Unfortunately we did not adhere to the time limit as we had lots of interesting information we wanted to tell our classmates.

Summer 2019

Letter J

In this semester we had to choose a letter and then make a presentation on some topic starting with this letter. I've got letter J, so I decided to present about Jobs in Foreign Countries. To be more specific, about a webpage called Workaway.

I spent some time trying to figure out the topic, but then it came into my mind and I was quite happy with it. I really enjoyed working on this presentation but, as ussual, I was utterly nervous in front of my classmates.

Winter 2019

Stephen Crane - The Open Boat

This presentation is from the History, Culture and Literature of USA course. We were supposed to prepare a pannel discussion about one American literary work for the whole class. I worked on it with Bára klegerová and Kateřina Šantorová.

2018 + 2019

Vocabulary

Here are some useful vocabulary lists from my studies at MU.

Especially useful was (and still is) the last one with collocations. It is from Grammar courses and I had really hard time to learn all of it.
